Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys - Rollin' On The Rubber Wheels

Ralph II has a fine new album available on Stanley Family Records.

Featuring a choice selection of songs, the album successfully combines the rich legacy of the "Stanley" sound with Ralph II's own contemporary country-influences.

Stanley Brothers
16 Oct 1966 - Bean Blossom, IN (59 years ago)

The Stanley Brothers appeared at Brown County Jamboree, Bean Blossom Indiana.

This is said to be the final full length show by the Stanley Brothers before Carter's death at the start of December. They performed two shows with the early afternoon appearance being partly issued on the LP Together For The Last Time (Joy 10329) 1971, and in more complete form on Ralph's CD Brown County Jamboree (No Label No #) 2004. The second show which was recorded by Bill Ivey was later released as Stanley Series, Vol. 1 No. 4 (Copper Creek CCSS-V1N4) Sept. 1982.

13 - 16 Oct 1971 - Nashville, TN (54 years ago)

The WSM/Grand Ole Opry Birthday Celebration and DJ Convention ran for three days at the Opry House, Nashville. Tennesse, with Bluegrass Unlimited reporting "Most of the major bluegrass artists will be on hand to greet the DJ's". Those listed include: Ralph Stanley, Jim Eanes, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Lester Flatt, Mac Wiseman, Jim & Jesse, Don Reno, Red Smiley, Bill Harrell, James Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Goins Brothers, Cliff Waldron, Del McCoury and Charlie Moore.

16 Oct 1971 - Hampton, TN (54 years ago)

Ralph appeared at Hampton High School Gymnasium, Hampton, Tennesee.

The show was orfanised by Hampton's Volunteer Fire Department, in order to buy a new fire truck and also included: Ray Myers, Carl Story, George Hazelwood & the Tennessee Pardoners, Buddy Rose & the Tune Twisters, Ann Hazelwood, Jim Smith the Old Ridge Runner and Bernie Walker Square Dancers.

16 Oct 1974 - Nashville, TN (51 years ago)

Ralph appeared at the 'Early Bird Bluegrass Concert', which formed part of the WSM Birthday / DJ Convention, at the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville, Tennesse.

Other acts included: Bill Monroe, Jim & Jesse, Russ & Becky Jeffers, Reno - Harrell, James Monroe, Bluegrass Alliance, Sullivan Family, Marshall Family, The Boys From Shiloh, Clyde Moody,Carl Tipton, Hubert Davis, and Outdoor Plumbing Company.

16 Oct 1976 - New York, NY (49 years ago)

Ralph had a show at the Loeb Student Center Auditorium, New York University, New York. Tickets cost $4 in advance or $5 on the door.

16 Oct 1978 - Lexington, KY (47 years ago)

Ralph appeared at the Diner's Playhouse "5th Anniversary" show at 484 Intererstate Ave in Lexington, Kentucky. Also on the bill were: Stoney Creek and Katie Laur. Tickets cost $6 and the show was sold out.

16 Oct 1981 - Vancouver, BC, Canada (44 years ago)

Ralph had a show at the Soft Rock Cafe, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Tickets cost $12.

14 - 16 Oct 1982 - Pitkin, LA (43 years ago)

Ralph was booked to appear (at some point) at the "Nitram Park Bluegrass Festival" at Nitram Park, 10 miles West of Pitkin, Louisiana. The band had another overlapping booking, so presumably only appeared on 1-2 days.

The festival itself ran from 14-16 October and other acts included: Bluegrass Ramblers, Sullivan Family, and others.

15 - 17 Oct 1982 - Steele, AL (43 years ago)

Ralph was listed as appearing (at some point) at the final "Horsepens 40 Bluegrass Festival" in Steele, Alabama. As the band had another overlapping booking, they may not have appeared on all three days.

The festival itself ran from 15-17 October and other acts included: Norman & Nancy Blake, Sally Mountain Show, Foster Family String Band, High Cotton Cloggers, Wild Oates, Glenn Tolbert, Golden River Grass, Cider Mill String Band, Three On A String, and Southern Natural Grass.

16 Oct 1992 - Maggie Valley, NC (33 years ago)

Ralph had a show at the Maggie Valley Opry House, Maggie Valley, North Carolina, along with Raymond Fairchild.

16 Oct 1993 - Waldo, FL (32 years ago)

Ralph had a show in Waldo, Florida.

16 Oct 1998 - Charlottesville, VA (27 years ago)

Ralph had a show at Jefferson Theater, Charlottesville, Virginia. Also on the bill was John Jackson. Tickets cost $25/$18 in advance.

16 Oct 1999 - Barre, VT (26 years ago)

Ralph had a show at the Barre Opry House, Barre, Vermont. The concert was presented by Onion River Arts Council and tickets cost $10-$22 (children $10-$12, seniors $10-$18).

16 Oct 2002 - Harrogate, TN (23 years ago)

Ralph was reported to have attended, but not performed at, a "Tribute to Ralph Stanley" concert at Tex Turner Arena, Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee. Acts appearing included: Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Mountain Heart, and the Reedy Creek Band.

Ralph was advertised as taking part in a show with Earl Scruggs & IIIrd Tyme Out at the Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee.

Earlier in the morning (11am) the "Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center" had it's grand opening in Clintwood, Virginia.

Ralph performed at the Grand Opening of the "Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center" in Clintwood, Virginia. Also appearing were The Abrams.
