The Stanley Brothers - Love Me Darlin' Just Tonight / Midnight Ramble

(King 5165) Dec 1958

Love Me Darlin' Just Tonight
Midnight Ramble

This 7" was released a few month's before their classic King debut LP, The Stanley Brothers And The Clinch Mountain Boys (aka King 615).

According to Gary B. Reid the Stanley's learnt Love Me, Darlin', Just Tonight from 'Red' Malone, an entertainer who spent some time on the WCYB 'Farm & Fun Time' Radio show.[1] He also contributed A Little At A Time to the Stanley's repertoire. Love Me, Darlin'... is one of many Stanley's fan favourites, which Ralph also cut on his Live In Japan and The Stanley Sound Around The World albums.

Midnight Ramble is yet another of Ralph's under-rated banjo tunes, which considering it's great fun to (attempt to) play is sadly neglected these days...

Both sides of the single can be found on The Early Starday/King Years, 1958-1961 4xCD box set.

For a detailed breakdown and background to the Stanley's sessions, check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book, pages 91-93 and 139.
