The Stanley Brothers - Over In The Glory Land / Mother Left Me Her Bible

(King 5367) Jun 1960

Over In The Glory Land
Mother Left Me Her Bible

This 7" was recorded at the sessions for the For The Good People and released a couple of months prior to the LP's release in August.

'Billboard' magazine reviewed the single in their 27 Jun 1960 issue, describing: Over In The Glory Land as "Sacred side by an outstanding duo. Authentic hill sound."; and Mother Left Me Her Bible as "Very strong item for the sacred field. The Brothers sing this with fervor and authentic styling." Each song got 3 stars out of 5.[1]

Both tracks have subsequently been heavily reissued, of which the 4xCD box set The Early Starday/King Years, 1958-1961 is probably the best.

For a detailed breakdown and background to the Stanley's sessions, check Gary B. Reid's The Music Of The Stanley Brothers book, pages 100-105 and 142-144.
