(Laurel Leaf 6606/6607) c1969
This is a rare 45 by Cager Farler that includes an early version of Ralph's Poor Rambler, which Ralph recorded on his Brand New Country Songs LP.
The flipside, Slew Foot was also in the CMB's live repertoire 1967-69 performed as a comedy number for Melvin Goins. After he left the band around May 69 he also recorded it for the Goins Brothers' debut LP Bluegrass Hits Old And New.
The recording and performance on the 45 is quite primitive, with the exception of the lead guitar playing, but I really like it.
I figured this 45 was worth including in the discography due to the 45 featuring an early cover of one of Ralph's songs, and with Cager Farler having also used some of the CMB's on his much sought-after Live And Let Live/Orange Blossom Special 45. See that entry for more details on Cager...
Both sides can be heard on youtube - Poor Rambler / Slewfoot.
I couldn't get a decent photo or scan of the labels for this 45 as the print is very indistinct with silver ink on a dark blue background...
